At Langwith Bassett Junior Academy our History Curriculum intent is to help pupils gain a coherent understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world and to develop their research and inspire their curiosity. Our varied and exciting topics focus on key historical events and time frames, from the early Stone age, through to modern history and events within living memory. We believe that the teaching of a broad Curriculum is central to developing our pupils’ key skills;  to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, and develop perspective and judgement. This progression of historical skills helps our pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, including those of the present, the process of change, the diversity of societies and beliefs, whilst celebrating these differences. From key stage 1 the pupils will be exploring concepts such as chronology, historical enquiry, and change and continuity; all of which will support them in reaching their own, valued interpretation of key historical questions. We also aim to enrich the curriculum by including artefacts, resources and class trips.
