Welcome to our Class 1 page

We have a brand new bespoke Foundations Unit that has been built to meet the development needs of all our Foundation Stage children.  The Reception children share the Foundations Unit with our FS1 children. 

We have 16 places available in our FS2 classes.                                     

School times: 8.30am – 3.15pm

Registration  closes at 8.45am.

Class 1 (Foxes) – Reception class is taught by Mrs Parker. 

Hello and a huge welcome to families new and old! What a fabulous start we have had to the new academic year. It has certainly been busy but exciting and fun as we embark on this new learning journey together. 

We begin each morning with a fun Wiggles and Jiggles session which certainly gets our minds and bodies ready for the day and brings such huge smiles to our faces! 

Each morning, the children have both a phonic and maths session with some Busy Time fun in the middle. In the afternoons, we explore a text which is brought to us by our resident bookworm – The Everywhere Bear. He not only collects texts on his travels for us, he also brings us story props and some fantastic new words which we put actions to. We also have Discovery Time sessions which are topic-based and allow us to explore the wider world through play and hands-on discovery. The children take part in a weekly PE session and on a Wednesday we spend the afternoon outside developing and extending our learning through creativity and nature. These are our Wellie Wednesday sessions! 

We love reading stories and singing songs too. 

Each week, the children choose and bring home a reading for pleasure book which is a lovely opportunity for you to share and read books as a family. 

Our Foundation 1 (Baby Owls) children also bring home a copy of the nursery rhyme they have been singing in their daily phonics sessions.

Our Foundation 2 (Foxes) children bring home a copy of the 4 sounds we have focussed on that week, along with either tricky or high frequency words OR a reading book. These words and books match the children's phonics ability. 

We ask parents to read with their child at home at least three times a week, recording each session in their reading record, and to practice any sounds the children are sent home. The race is on to see who reaches the top of our reading beanstalk first - the giant awaits! 

We also send home a Busy Bee Home challenge each week and this is a practical hands-on activity for you as a family to engage in. So far this half-term, the children have been sent on a treasure hunt to collect leaves to make into a picture of their families, a play dough recipe to follow, and then try out the skills to help develop and strengthen those funky finger fine motor skills and an 'All about me and my Family' so that we can gain an understanding of the whole child and celebrate each other.
